The Machinima Festival in New York wasn’t all business, as displayed here when Nexeus Fatale and I decided to play with a green screen. Hilarity ensues.

I’m totally going to regret uploading this. Apparently I drunkenly interviewed Eric Call about his Festival win this last weekend in New York. I forgot about it until reviewing footage just now.

Well, actually, I got back last night, but I’ve been sick. I don’t know what it is about traveling that does me in.
So my thoughts about the Festival will come out in my blog over the next couple of days. I had a really good time, even if I thought SL got robbed in terms of winners, but that’s another blog entry in itself.
For now, I have some pictures!!!

Thanks to secondlife.podcast.com for making this happen.

Hey everyone!@ I’m safe in New York. Sitting at an internet cafe drinking italian soda with Pierce P. All is going well, but damn, New York is expensive!
I had my first subway ride today. It was…interesting, to describe it best. It was actually kinda confusing to figure out what direction to go in. Can’t think of anything else to say now. I’ll write more when I have the chance!

PS. I spoke to BuhBuhCuh about an hour ago. He was in Minnesota and he arrives in NY tonight at 7pm.

Yep! My flight to New York is today at 3:10pm. I’m a bit nervous that I only have a 40 minute layover in Dallas, but I’m going to call ahead and find out what terminal I’ll need to be in, since AA has like 4 of them. O.o
I’m beyond excited. I’ll be calling in when I can. It’s just going to be insane! I’ve tried to get as many Second Lifers as I can to go. Did I mention free cocktail reception before and after the Awards Ceremony on Saturday night?
For those that need to reach me while I’m in NewYork, you can call my cell @ 254-733-7675. I’ll update more once I’ve done laundry. (Eek! I’m so last minute!)
<3 secondlife.podcast.com for sending me.

Paul Marino contacted me last night regarding the Machinima Festival. Being that Pierce will be on a panel and I’ll be moderating that panel, he needed our bios for the Fest program. Eeek! We didn’t have bios. Here is what we came up with:
Sasha Rudie, under the pseudonym moo Money, was hired as the Community Manager of Alt-Zoom Studios, a non-profit organization centering around Machinima, within the virtual world of Second Life in May 2006. Since she began, the Take5 Machinima Festival, a virtual Machinima festival run by Alt-Zoom Studios, has grown from two Machinima productions to over 20 Machinima productions submitted by residents every month. She dedicates most of her time to educating SL residents about Machinima. Most recently, she helped lead a discussion on Machinima at the Second Life Community Convention in August 2006, as well as assisting a successful real-life Machinima Festival during the Convention. In her previous online life, Ms. Rudie was a volunteer employee of Stratics as an online journalist. She reported on such games as Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, and The Sims Online.
Pierce Portocarrero has honed his skills as a director of Machinima inside the synthetic world of Second Life since 2004. During this time, Pierce has had the opportunity to produce numerous short films, work with MTV, and receive coverage on Fox News. In addition to his many side projects, he has spent the last two years working on a feature length documentary in Second Life, “Ideal World”, which is scheduled to be released in 2007. In the fall of 2006, Pierce went back to his small-town roots in Georgia to form OddWadd, a Machinima production company dedicated to serving the needs of commercial businesses, artists, and residents within Second Life. In the panel circuit, Pierce cut his teeth discussing flash video at SXSW. Mr. Portocarrero holds a degree in Interactive Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
W00t!@ We get to be in a program viewed by like 1500 people. This should help raise awareness about SL machinima. Only 3 days left! Thank you, secondlife.podcast.com for sending me to New York. I’ll make you proud.

I tracked down Paul Marino last night. I had a nice chat with him about New York, the Fest, and what he’s been up to. I found out that while the regular part of the Fest is casual, the awards ceremony will be more business casual. As much as I hate it, I’m probably going to wear a dress. *grumbles* Keep on the lookout for embarassing pictures of that in two weeks.
I found out more details about the panel, but I can’t say much other than that I’m moderating a panel with Pierce and one or two other guests.
There’s other big news, but I can’t really discuss it right now. I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated once I get there. Just about 8 days left until the Festival. I get more nervous with each passing day. Not just because of the Festival, but other exciting stuff going on. I think I’ll keep that part to myself though.
To those that are going to be in New York, let me know! We can all sign up for dodgeball or exchange phone numbers. <3 secondlife.podcast.com

So I’ve been kinda bummed. Pierce and I worked up this cool panel idea and we emailed the AMAS guys. We ended up getting waitlisted, with the possibility of a workshop in a few months.
I messaged one of the guys today when he logged onto Second Life. He happens to live only a few blocks from where I’m going to be staying. I’m REALLY excited about kicking it with them. Anyways, to get back to my point, he told me that they’re trying to fit in a half-hour session on Sunday for Pierce and I. This is like HUGE!
I’ll keep you guys updated as I know more. I <3 you guys, especially Pierce P and Koz/podcast.com. *mwah*
* Now to shop for the perfect attire…

I just wanted to update everyone on what I was thinking and feeling right now about the upcoming festival. I also thank some important machinimists, Pierce Portocarrero, Paul Marino, and Overman, that inspire me.
Thanks for sponsoring me, podcast.com!

My journey to insanity is over! I was contacted by Koz Farina, of Podcast.com and Secondlife.Podcast.com, about being sponsored for my trip to New York for the Machinima Festival. Now I can spread the good word of Second Life to other machinimists.
For those that have heard of Koz, he is also of BlogHUD fame. During the next 20 days, I’ll be blogging my thoughts, doing vlogs, calling in to do audioblogs, and posting footage of the event itself. Stay tuned!
In other news, the panel spots are all full, but my outline of our panel was so awesome, that they might want us to do a workshop for AMAS members! That’s so much cooler in a way! I’m really excited to see the enthusiasm for Second Life machinima.
As for travel info, I arrive on Thursday night, November 2nd, and leave on Monday afternoon, November 6th. That gives me 4 nights of clubbing and 3.5 days of work! If you live in the New York area and I know you from Second Life, contact me if you want to hang out!
